MEET our T3 February ATHLETE of the MONTH, Amy Farrell!

Congratulations to our Coach of the Month, Amy Farrell. If you have been in the sport long enough, then undoubtedly you have heard her name. She embodies the true passion of the sport. Sharing her positivity through class is what she has always done. She pairs this enthusiasm with her athletes as well. Encouraging them to strive for their best, but embrace the fun in everything. T3 Coaching is fortunate to have a rock-star coach like Amy on staff!!!

Q:  What is your name and where do you live?

A:   Amy Farrell, Tupper Lake, NY

Q:  What is your occupation?

A:   Physical Education Teacher and coach

Q:  When did you start participating in triathlons? What motivated you to participate?

A:   I competed in my first triathlon when I was 16 years old. I rode a very cool black and red bike from Ames that didn’t have any air in the tires.

Q:  What are some of your career highlights as an athlete (not necessarily triathlon)?

A:  Duathlon National Champion, Age Group World Champion for Ironman and 70.3

Overall Female Champion of Ironman Lake Placid, Ironman Santa Rosa and Ironman North Carolina

Q:  How long have you been coaching triathletes?

A:   I took on my first triathlon coaching client in 2010.

Q:  Do you coach any other sports?

A:   I am a middle and high school track coach and love working with athletes on technical events.

Q:  Why did you choose to become a coach?

A:   I started coaching high school track in college because I love track and field and sharing that passion.

Q:  What’s your coaching style or philosophy?

A:   I want my athletes to enjoy the whole adventure, with that I want them to understand that there are so many more ways to get fit and fast that don’t have to include soley riding a TT bike or running on roads or swimming in a pool.

Q:  Tell us about one of your coaching highlights.

A:   Getting to race in Kona with one of my very first athletes. Being able to share the process with her was beyond my wildest dreams!

Q:  Do you have a funny story related to your coaching or racing experience?

A:   I went to a race in Vermont a couple of summers ago because a couple of my athletes were racing and there was big T3 presence which I love to experience. When I was setting up my transition area I realized I had forgotten my cycling shoes. My athletes got to watch me pivot on the fly!

Q:  What is the best part of coaching for you?

A:   Watching the progress throughout the season and then from season to season. Helping people through tough spots in life and helping them realize how powerful they are!

Q:  What advice would you give to a 'newbie' in the sport?

A:   Have fun! We get to do this, we don’t have to do this!

Q:  Do you have any secret training tips? (Not really secret if you share, huh?)

A:   Pizza before big rides and races always! Coke and salt can save a race!

Q:  What’s a favorite workout that you have developed?

A:   hmmmm that’s a toughie, I’ve built some doozy’s on Zwift. I also love speed workouts for running as I came from a running background and think they break up the monotony or long distance training.

Q:  Is there a workout you give, but wouldn’t want to do yourself :-)

A:   hahaha I love to assign long progression runs, but as I’ve gotten older I do not enjoy doing them!

Q:  What makes T3 special for you?

A:   The community and energy are unmatched!

Q:  Any thoughts you want to share?

A:   I feel so lucky to be able to help grown ups go out and play every single day!
