MEET our T3 July ATHLETE of the MONTH, Paul Fronhofer!

Q:  What is your name and where do you live?

A:  Paul Fronhofer, Argyle, NY

Q:  What is your age?

A:  30

Q:  What is your occupation?

A:  Business Owner

Q:  How long have you been participating in triathlons?

A:  This will be my 9th season.

Q:  How long have you been coached by T3 Coaching?

A:  4 or 5 years. I can't remember. If something’s working you should stick with it.

Q:  What is your favorite race, and why?

A:  My favorite race would have to be Ironman Lake Placid.  I feel that I have had so much growth as an athlete on the roads in Lake Placid.  From training to racing it seems that every year I surprise myself in just how much I learn about me out there sweating and hurting.

Q:  What is your favorite piece of triathlon equipment?

A:  This may come as a surprise... My SEROTTA MEIVICI AE

Q:  What are some of your career highlights as an athlete (not necessarily triathlon)?

A:  Qualifying for the Ironman World Championships in Hawaii in 2007 and now again in 2009.  Placing 3rd at sunyacs on the 3 meter springboard as a walk on to the Cortland diving team having never dove before.  Riding my bike to South Carolina when I was 15.

Q:  What are your triathlon goals for this season?

A:  Qualify for Kona.  Done!  Place top 10 overall at Ironman Lake Placid.  And try to go 9:30.

Q:  What is your long-term goal in the sport of mtn. biking/triathlon?

A:  My long term goal in triathlon is really just to keep it part of my life on some level.

Q:  What are 3 foods someone would always find in your refrigerator/cupboards?

A:  Tostitos and salsa , block's of cheese and usually a container of something that should have been thrown away a week ago.

Q:  Do you specialize in a particular mtn. biking/triathlon distance? If so, why that distance?

A:  I guess I would have to say that I specialize in ultra distance (Ironman) and probably no other reason than I keep signing up to race them and once you do that your training schedule for the year is pretty much set.  I also seem to have a knack long and steady.

Q:  What advice would you give to a 'newbie' in the sport?

A:  The best advice I can give a newbie is to get out train.  Don't worry about details. There will be plenty of time later to start calculating and measuring. The best way to improve at first is to put miles in.

Q:  Do you have any secret training tips? (Not really secret if you share, huh?)

A:  The best training tip I could give would have to be "listen to your body"; if your feeling tired or run down you probably need a day off - and on the other end, if your feeling good, take advantage of that time to push a little harder.

Q:  Please list your favorite workout:

A:  My favorite workout is probably some kind of long interval set.  Ex.: 5 x 5min zone 4 with 2 min recovery.  I feel like I get the most benefit in the least amount of time.  Similar to hill repeats on the bike or running.

Q:  Any thoughts you want to share?

A:  GET A COACH!!! It really simplifies the sport. You can put all your focus into the workout given to you. You won't have to spend any wasted energy worrying about whether you doing too much or not enough.
