MEET our T3 March ATHLETE of the MONTH, Bobby Thorborg!

Congratulations to Bobby Thorborg on being our T3 Coaching Athlete of the Month! Bobby is in his second year of training with T3, and his dedication and coachability are second to none. Bobby has continued his outstanding triathlon career in urban D.C., where training can often be challenging due to lack of roads or weather. He has taken on the challenge of preparing for his events in unique ways, while maintaining a very high level of fitness. It is a privilege to coach Bobby and I couldn't be prouder of his commitment.

Q:  What is your name and where do you live?

A:  Bobby Thorborg and I live in Arlington, VA

Q:  What is your age?

A:  26

Q:  What is your occupation?

A:  External Affairs Coordinator

Q:  When did you start participating in triathlons? What motivated you to participate?

A:  Since the summer of 2008

Q:  How long have you been coached by T3 Coaching?

A:  Coming up on 1 year

Q:  What is your favorite race, and why?

A:  Ironman Lake Placid. Beyond the awe inspiring beauty of the Adirondacks, this race was incredibly rewarding for me because of the journey leading up to the race and because it was my first and only Ironman to date. I was able to spend the entire summer training with my high school swim coach and a few other athletes in the area, which allowed the experience to be much bigger than myself. I still consider that summer to be the most enjoyable and rewarding summer of my life.

Q:  What is your favorite piece of triathlon equipment?

A:  My bike (Felt DA3)!

Q:  What are some of your career highlights as an athlete (not necessarily triathlon)?

A:  1st place overall in the 2012 Nation's Triathlon, 1st place overall at the 2016 Rev3 Salute Tri.

Q:  What is your long-term goal in the sport of mtn. biking/triathlon?

A:  Compete in Kona and the Ultra-man

Q:  What are 3 foods someone would always find in your refrigerator/cupboards?

A:  Ice Cream, Avocados and milk

Q:  What kind of music could we find on your iPod?

A:  Hard Rock/Alternative Rock

Q:  What advice would you give to a 'newbie' in the sport?

A:  Take everything as a learning experience and remain positive throughout. Triathlon is a very overwhelming and intimidating sport to jump into, but an extremely rewarding and fun one! Be sure not to get overwhelmed and just take it one workout at a time.

Q:  Do you have any secret training tips? (Not really secret if you share, huh?)

A:  This may be strange, but during intense run workouts (e.g. intervals) I listen to hard rock, but on my long, slow runs you'll finding me listening to the soothing voice of Neil Young.

Q:  Please list your favorite workout:

A:  As of late, I've enjoyed just a simple ruck workout (running with a weighted vest), but I also enjoy run workouts with body weight exercises mixed it, such as:

Warm-up 1 mile easy
Run 1 mile with 10 push ups every 100 m
Walk 2 minutes

Run 1 mile with 30 pushups every 200 m
Walk 2 minutes
Run 1 mile with 50 pushups every 400 m
C/d 1 mile

Q:  Any thoughts you want to share?

A:  Never stop seeking different and unique challenges in your life. The challenges I've faced over the past year were some of the most humbling experiences of my life and have changed me profoundly.
