MEET our T3 July ATHLETE of the MONTH, Jason Chlopecki!

Q:  What is your name and where do you live?

A:  Jason Chlopecki, Glenville, NY

Q:  What is your age?

A:  33

Q:  What is your occupation?

A:  Environmental Planner (ie. Under paid civil engineer)

Q:  How long have you been participating in triathlons?

A:  This is my second season, my first tri was May 2007 and I have been hooked ever since.

Q:  How long have you been coached by T3 Coaching?

A:  Almost 6 months.

Q:  What is your favorite race, and why?

A:  Tupper Lake Tinman.  I just finished this race and though it was very difficult.  It was run real well and the spectators were awesome.  I also had a huge cheering section which made the race even better.

Q:  What is your favorite piece of triathlon equipment?

A:  I would have to say my Timex Bodylink heart rate monitor.  The more I learn about how to use it and set it up, the more I like it.  I really don't have any training partners so it comes in real handy and almost acts as my partner.

Q:  What are some of your career highlights as an athlete (not necessarily triathlon)?

A:  I don't know if it really would count as being an athlete but becoming an Adirondack 46r in '04 then becoming a Winter 46r in '08.

Q:  What are your triathlon goals for this season?

A:  I have already accomplished one of my goals and that was finishing the Tupper Lake Tinman.  I would like to do as many races this year as I can fit into my schedule and afford.

Q:  What is your long-term goal in the sport of mtn. biking/triathlon?

A:  I really don't have any long term goals. I would love to complete an Ironman at some point, maybe in '09.

Q:  What are 3 foods someone would always find in your refrigerator/cupboards?

A:  Peanut butter, plain yogurt and whole-wheat tortillas chips.

Q:  Do you specialize in a particular mtn. biking/triathlon distance? If so, why that distance?

A:  I don't know if I really specialize in any distance but I like the Olympic Distance races the best.  They are long enough that to compete you need to train but short enough that you don't need to worry as much about nutrition.

Q:  What advice would you give to a 'newbie' in the sport?

A:  Get a coach.  I started off basically training myself from reading magazines.  It got me in pretty decent shape but working with Kevin has elevated me to another level.

Q:  Do you have any secret training tips? (Not really secret if you share, huh?)

A:  Get all your gear ready the night before and get up early to get in your workouts.  That way you will have the rest of the day for everything else that comes up.

Q:  Please list your favorite workout:

A:  Any workout with hill repeats.  I love running hills and the repeats really give me the ability to just hammer them during races.  There is no better feeling then just blowing someone away on a climb and there being nothing they can do about it.

Q:  Any thoughts you want to share?

A:  Get a coach who knows the sport and is passionate about helping you achieve your goals
