MEET our T3 July ATHLETE of the MONTH, Christian Weber!

CoCongratulations to Christian Weber on earning the Athlete of the Month. Christian is a multi-talented individual that is fun to be around. He brings amazing energy and positivity to everything he does...from training, to house projects, to running an amazing business at Common Roots Brewing Company. Despite the cancellations of events this season, Christian was super proud of the gains he had made with T3 Coaching and wanted to continue. After he completed the #T3COVIDCHALLENGE (Swim 2.4 miles, Bike 112, Run/Walk 26.2 over the course of 3 days) in June, he immediately wanted more. Setting attainable, yet progressive goals - he continues with his training daily. Understanding that balance is key, he is settling into an amazing lifestyle that pairs work, family and "play" all together. T3 is super proud of Christian - so we raise a glass to him

Q:  What is your name and where do you live?

A:   Christian Weber, Glens Falls, NY

Q:  What is your age?

A:   34

Q:  What is your occupation?

A:   Co-Founder / President of Common Roots Brewing Company

Q:  When did you start participating in triathlons? What motivated you to participate?

A:   Co-Founder / President of Common Roots Brewing Company

Q:  How long have you been coached by T3 Coaching?

A:   Since 2018 by Kevin

Q:  What is your favorite race, and why?

A:   Lake Placid Ironman – it was my first 140.6 so it is certainly a memorable one. I also used to live in Lake Placid after graduate school when I was the Executive Director of the Lake Placid Land Conservancy. My wife, Melanie, and I also have a house in Lake Placid so I certainly have a strong attachment and feel at home in Lake Placid.

Q:  What is your favorite piece of triathlon equipment?

A:   As someone who likes numbers and data I would have to say my Garmin. I’m fairly new to the sport so it’s been really encouraging and motivating to track my training and highlight my progress and successes.

Q:  What are some of your career highlights as an athlete (not necessarily triathlon)?

A:   A major career highlight was a specific training day at Moreau State Park when I swam 2.2 miles with ease and realized in that moment that I would be able to complete an Ironman. At the time, swimming was certainly the most difficult aspect of triathlons for me and it was the cause of a lot of stress. Since then swimming has become one of my favorite disciplines in the sport and I feel completely confident in the water – thanks to T3 of course!

Q:  What are your triathlon goals for this season?

A:   My original goal for this season was to complete Ironman Lake Placid 2020 and improve my time from 2018. However, since the Ironman racing season has been canceled for 2020 I’ve adjusted my goals and I’m working on more specific running and cycling goals, but largely life goals so that I can maintain a healthy and active lifestyle. I hope to compete in Ironman Lake Placid 2021 so I plan to just continue my training through the rest of this year and have a great start to 2021.

Q:  What is your long-term goal in the sport of mtn. biking/triathlon?

A:   Overall my long term goals are to maintain an active lifestyle and to be able to participate in multisport races long into the future.

Q:  What are 3 foods someone would always find in your refrigerator/cupboards?

A:   1) Common Roots Brewing beers (of course!)
2) Gouda Cheese
3) Sriracha Hot Sauce

Q:  What kind of music could we find on your iPod?

A:   I’m into most music styles, however if the radio isn’t on NPR I find myself listening to the 90s XM radio. I don’t think Third Eye Blind has ever made a bad song. Sometimes on long trainer rides I’ll throw on a podcast too.

Q:  What advice would you give to a 'newbie' in the sport?

A:   Remember to have fun. The majority of the athletes participating in triathlons are not doing this professionally and there is no need to get too stressed out about the results. You are choosing to do this, it should be fun!

Q:  Do you have any secret training tips? (Not really secret if you share, huh?)

A:   For best results, have a Common Roots beer post-workout.

Q:  Please list your favorite workout:

A:   Social rides! I love when I see Kevin put in a long social ride on the training schedule and my wife and I can just get out and explore the area on our bikes while also checking off a training ride for the day.
Also, I have been really enjoying the long runs now that I am getting into running. They give me a chance to get warmed up so I can really see progress over the course of one workout.

Q:  Any thoughts you want to share?

A:   Also, I have been really enjoying the long runs now that I am getting into running. They give me a chance to get warmed up so I can really see progress over the course of one workout.
