MEET our T3 December ATHLETE of the MONTH, Steciuk Family!

Congratulations to our Athletes of the Month. The STECIUK FAMILY!

Accomplishing any Ironman is a remarkable feat no matter what... accomplishing an Ironman with family members is even more so! The Athletes of the Month are the Steciuk Family. This past July, the Steciuk Family (Maureen & Peter, along with daughters Andrea & Jessica), competed in Ironman Lake Placid. Coach Kevin says "working with the Steciuk Family was unbelievably rewarding. While they loved to workout together, creating small-individual differences to their workouts was fun." When race day came, their energy and support for each other was a sight to see. The pride that came from each of them, towards each other, as with all the T3ers on the course was something special. The Steciuk's are a remarkable family and one T3 is fortunate to have come across. CONGRATULATIONS Maureen, Peter, Andrea, and Jessica. #T3Proud

Q:  What is your name and where do you live?

A:  Andrea Steciuk - (daughter) Queensbury

Jessica Steciuk - (daughter) Lake George Village

Peter Steciuk - (dad), Lake George

Q:  What is your age?

A:  Andrea - 28

Jessica - 24

Peter - 54

Q:  What is your occupation?

A:  Andrea – Accountant

Jessica – Engineer

Peter – Business Owner/Engineer

Q:  When did you start participating in triathlons? What motivated you to participate?

A:  Andrea - 4 years

Jessica - 1 year

Peter - 30 Years (1989) with a break between 1995-2000.

Q:  How long have you been coached by T3 Coaching?

A:  Andrea – 2 years-Soon to be 3

Jessica – 1 year

Peter – 2 years

Q:  What is your favorite race, and why?

A:  Andrea – I enjoy every race! I would say my favorite is IMLP. Nothing beats being able to train in your backyard. The comradery and supporters are awesome and watching my dad do the race 13 years in a row makes it a little more special to me.

Jessica – It is hard to pick just one race but last season I did Connecticut 70.3 and IMLP. I enjoyed Connecticut so much because it was my first triathlon ever and it was also hosted by ironman. Although Connecticut was a blast nothing beats IMLP. The course is beautiful and feels like home.

Peter – Obviously Lake Placid IM but I enjoy all races. Close runner up races are Tupper Lake Tinman, and the Connecticut Half Ironman.

Q:  What is your favorite piece of triathlon equipment?

A:  Andrea – I would say Trainingpeaks paired with the Garmin watch and Garmin pedals because I like the analytical data. I can track my progression over the season(s), and I like getting medals and seeing my watts(increase).

Jessica – Garmin pedals. I think it is fun to be able to see my power ride to ride, especially for an FTP test. It is also fun to compare my power with my sisters… We are comparable in size, so it is competitive!

Peter – Don’t really have one but I will go with the Garmin Fenix watch paired with the Garmin Vector-2 pedals.

Q:  What are some of your career highlights as an athlete (not necessarily triathlon)?

A:  Andrea – As a gymnast - Qualified for Regionals multiple times with first place on vault. Completed two Ironman.

Jessica – A non-triathlon highlight would be winning the all-around regional championship and qualifying to nationals for gymnastics.

Peter – Adirondack 46er @ 9 years old, wrestling placed 3rd in Section-2, competed in the last 15 IMLP races with best time of 10:54:06, best half ironman of 4:38:54

Q:  What are your triathlon goals for this season?

A:  Andrea - Next year I would like to PR at IMLP. One of my goals is to do a new race in which I have signed up for and I am super excited about.

Jessica – Cut my swim time down a little bit from last year but more specifically beat my dad out of the water! Other than that, I have had my fair share of knee problems so I would love to get healthy and become a steady runner.

Peter – For next season continue training with friends/family when possible with having great workouts and hopefully a couple of good races.

Q:  What is your long-term goal in the sport of mtn. biking/triathlon?

A:  Andrea – Probably to complete more Ironman’s than my father :)

Jessica – Continue to push myself to see what I am capable of.

Peter – Continue to do IMLP until it is discontinued.

Q:  What are 3 foods someone would always find in your refrigerator/cupboards?

A:  Andrea – Mini cucumbers, beer, olives

Jessica – pickles, cheese and Ramen Noodles

Peter – junk food, beer and pickles

Q:  What kind of music could we find on your iPod?

A:   Andrea – A little of everything except country

Jessica – country, todays hits and some 70’s, 80’s & 90’s

Peter – Classic rock

Q:  What advice would you give to a 'newbie' in the sport?

A:   Andrea – Don’t get discouraged in races or training. Accept the fact that you are going to have your ups and downs but remember you will come out stronger!

Jessica – Challenge yourself but don’t ramp up to fast in distance or duration. You don’t want to get injured or burn out

Peter – Enjoy the sport don’t get obsessed. Family comes first. Get a coach for guidance.

Q:  Do you have any secret training tips? (Not really secret if you share, huh?)

A:   Andrea – Never put off a day of training from lack of motivation because the day will come when something spontaneous comes up and you can’t train, and you wish you could.

Jessica – Not yet…I am only going into my second triathlon season, so I am still learning

Peter – Train early morning and lunch and take the evenings off.

Q:  Please list your favorite workout:

A:  Andrea – I like high intensity workouts on the bike or run

Jessica – Long bike rides outside. Most of them I would bike with family and friends. We would stop at Stewarts for fuel and some of the scenery was amazing.

Peter – Long endurance ride around Lake George.

Q:  Any thoughts you want to share?

A:   Andrea - Choosing to participate in triathlons a few years ago was one of the best decisions I have made. Choosing to be a part of T3 has equally been one of my best decisions. I enjoy the healthy lifestyle as I always have and the endurance aspect of it. Spending training days with my family has brought us even closer and has created a special bond that extends to my cousins, uncles, and close friends.

Jessica – I have only been a part of triathlons for a year now, but I had such a great experience my first season. I supported my dad, uncles and sister at IMLP for the past 14 years and every year I would say to whoever I was standing next to, “I will do this one day”. I never would have thought that it would have included competing with 8 of my family members and being a part of T3. Can’t wait for 2020!

Peter – I feel so lucky… To be healthy and fortunate enough to be able to participate in the sport for so long. As a husband, father, and uncle, I have had the joy to usher my family into this great sport. This year my wife, two daughters, brother, three nieces, and nephew all participated at IMLP along with friends. Next year most of us are coming back.

Being part T3 is awesome. Kevin has been great. Until two years ago, I trained old school. He has introduced me to new workouts and techniques never thought of. He is motivating, and ultimately pushes you further and deeper in your workouts.
