MEET our T3 December ATHLETE of the MONTH, Bryn Becker!

Coach Amanda says, “Coaching Bryn this year has been an incredibly rewarding experience. She exemplifies dedication and resilience, effortlessly fitting workouts into her busy travel and work schedule, all while maintaining a positive and radiant smile. After getting to know Bryn during our climb up Whiteface, I knew she would be a joy to coach. She's the type of athlete who tackles challenges with no complaints and a huge smile on her face. Bryn has learned to trust the process and truly showcased her athletic abilities at Ironman Arizona. She completed her first Ironman in under 12 hours and 10th in her age group!! She had big shoes to fill after her parents' remarkable finish in Lake Placid, but it's clear that talent runs in the family.”

Q:  What is your name and where do you live?

A:   Bryn Becker and I live in Dallas, Texas

Q:  What is your age?

A:   25

Q:  What is your occupation?

A:   Electrification Project Engineer at PepsiCo—basically helping make things greener and more reliable!

Q:  How long have you been participating in triathlons?

A:   A little over a year! Though technically, I had a brief "triathlete phase" at 10 when my dad made us do them. I retired early after repeatedly losing to my younger brother in the last 100 feet of every run.

Q:  How long have you been coached by T3 Coaching?

A:   6 months by Coach Amanda!

Q:  What is your favorite race, and why?

A:   My favorite race has to be the Arizona Ironman I just did! As an ASU grad, I couldn’t imagine a better place for my first Ironman than my college town. Sure, Tempe Town Lake isn’t exactly known for its pristine waters (think: garbage, dead fish, and mysterious creatures), but it was worth every hesitation. My dad did this race 15 years ago and brought home two souvenirs: a long-sleeve IM Arizona tee and a scorpion lollipop. I never ate the lollipop, but I wore that shirt everywhere, so proud of my "superhero" dad. Being back there, surrounded by my family, college friends, and the best crowd of athletes and supporters, was such a full-circle moment. Hearing so many "first Ironman" stories and meeting incredible people on the course made it even more special. I wouldn’t trade my first full IM experience for anything!

Q:  What is your favorite piece of triathlon equipment?

A:   My helmet! I upgraded from a black one to a white one, which is a lifesaver in Dallas when it’s 100+ degrees. Bonus: my dad bought it for me during an Ironman Lake Placid trip, so it holds a lot of sentimental value. It also makes me feel fast on the bike—even if my legs still have some catching up to do. Fake it 'til you make it, right?

Q:  What are some of your career highlights as an athlete (not necessarily triathlon)?

A:   Working for a company that values health has been a game-changer—it lets me balance work and staying active. Doing Waco 70.3 this October was another highlight. Last year, I raced solo, but this year, I pulled together a group of seven coworkers, and seeing familiar faces on the course made all the difference. Building connections through cycling, running, and triathlons has been so rewarding. Plus, our "Cheesy Riders" bike group, complete with Chester Cheeto jerseys, keeps things fun and spirited!

Q:  What are your triathlon goals for this season?

A:   My main goal is to finish the California International Marathon in two weeks with a big smile, surrounded by my brother, his girlfriend, and two of my best friends who are also running. After that, I plan to focus on improving my cycling—but first, I’m treating myself to a few very long naps!

Q:  What is your long-term goal in the sport of mtn. biking/triathlon?

A:   I’d love to qualify for the World Championship someday, but my ultimate dream is to complete a full Ironman with my dad and Christina. Watching them tackle Ironman Lake Placid 16 years ago, I thought they were actual superheroes. It would mean the world to race alongside my two biggest supporters—while being their biggest cheerleader, too!

Q:  What are 3 foods someone would always find in your refrigerator/cupboards?

A:   Oats, bananas, and peanut butter—aka my survival kit. I eat them every single day. Sorry, Dad and Christina for always raiding your peanut butter stash when I visit home. Your contributions to my snack life are deeply appreciated!

Q:  What kind of music could we find on your playlist

A:   My workout playlist? None – I actually am weird and don’t really listen to music when I workout. I would say Folk Pop is my go to music choice when driving or have music playing in the background!

Q:  What advice would you give to a 'newbie' in the sport?

A:   Just keep pedaling, swimming, or running! You’ll get stronger, surprise yourself, and prove you can do anything you set your mind to. One last piece of advice: when tapering kicks in about two weeks before race day, your body might ache and your mind might play tricks on you. It’s cliché, but trust the process—it works! Just have to start!

Q:  Do you have any secret training tips? (Not really secret if you share, huh?)

A:   Double-check the length of your pool! If someone tells you, "Oh, it’s probably half an Olympic distance," don’t just trust them. Finding out months later that it’s not… well, let’s just say it might impact your training—and your ego—just a smidge.

Q:  Please list your favorite workout:

A:   DEFINITELY riding up Whiteface Mountain the day before IM Lake Placid with the team. I couldn’t stop—it was the first time my coach, Amanda, had ever seen me cycle, and there was no way I was going to let her down. Meanwhile, she’s casually chatting and making it look effortless, while I’m two breaths away from collapsing and rolling back down the mountain. Talk about a humbling experience!

Q:  Any thoughts you want to share?

A:   Thank you, Dad and Christina—you’ll always be my biggest supporters and the people I admire most. Everything I am is because of you. Your hard work, determination, grit, and endless love have shaped me in ways I can’t put into words. Dad, I promised I’d beat you in the 46’ers, and at the time, I thought that was the toughest thing I’d ever do. But here I am, taking on even crazier challenges while following in your footsteps. I love you both so much—you’re my heroes, always.
